*Tips for 12-year-olds:

Do not sneak computer when you are already grounded from sneaking out of bed to watch TV.

While sneaking on said family computer, do not Google such things as: boobs, Megan Fox nude, and other things that not even I will write here. Don’t even get me started with the videos.

Your parents can see every website you go on.

After getting caught, do not lie and say it wasn’t you, while knowing NO ONE ELSE has been on the computer, or even at home during the time these websites were viewed.

If you do lie which I HIGHLY don’t recommend, make up a better excuse than you were upstairs cleaning your brothers’ room. 

Do not scream, cry, throw yourself on the floor and freak the hell out. That will not help matters. And if you are old enough, to be typing those words,  you are old enough to cut the dramatics.

Do not look your parents in the eyes and lie and swear to God you didn’t do it.

So, let’s have a little recap here. Don’t look at porn on your families’ computer. If you do, in fact, find that you have viewed porn AND GET CAUGHT, ‘fess up. I can guarantee that your punishment for being a curious child will be FAR LESS WORSE than the punishment you will receive if you confess after you take the screaming, tantrum-throwing, and LYING approach.

**I am in need of a good software that will allow me to block porn from our home computers and have control of the websites that my children have access to. Suggestions?

    Krista- He is 12. I don't know where to go with the punishment. Obviously, grounding has no impact anymore. I am at a loss. He DEFINITELY will not be using the computer though. ;p

    oh boyyy!!! oh this is a glimpse into my future isn't it. (sigh.) can't help you in the punishment area. right now, one growls at me and the other laughs. so i'm probably looking at juvie one day. good luck! keep us posted!! LOL

    Thank GOODNESS mine is only 5. I am NOT looking forward to this. Ugh. Megan Fox though? At least he has good taste…LOL, sorry. I couldn't help myself. ;)

    Not fun for you, I'm sure, but my husband and I really enjoyed that! My five year old just recently discovered YouTube, so our eyes, too, are being opened to what's really out there!

    Sorry, no tips on the blocking software, but if he's as smart as he sounds, he'll figure out a way around it anyway.

    I'm glad you checked what he had been on. Yikes! That is no good. Good luck in finding the software. I hope that one of the ones recommended works for you. I wish I had some info for you. Let us know what you find!

    My sister (yes, sister) had a VERY similar episode when she was 16… I can't believe these kids know so much about computers but don't know that every move they make can be tracked!!

    I wish I had some good advice for you for blocking it out…

    Good luck! I typed in a youth hockey web site(that my kids had never heard of) and you should have seen the pictures that came up! YIKES!! Went to a different computer and typed in the same site and it came up again. I don't know how these sites hook themselves onto sites they think children are going on, but they do. For a 12 year old I am sure he was just tryng to answer some questions he had rolling around in his head, but one thing leads to another and on a computer it could be big problems! Again, good luck!

    Oh man, that sucks. It is hard to go through this, I don't even have anything to say in the way of advise. We have had our issues with Hunter, but not this.

    Ok I noticed that all of the moms or women that thoought it was funny had never gone through it, yet!!! Not criticizing just commenting!! I've been there, done that with my now 19 year old and it is not a fun thing to deal with. I used "netnanny". I thought it was easy for me to use, and him hard to get around!! Perfect combination if you ask me!! I could do a print out of anything he did on the computer with a time stamp and I could block individual websites or open up specific sites that didn't have anything offensive on it, but they caught onto anyway.
    Good luck with this….it's not easy to deal with, but it is sooooo important to deal with when they are only 12 so you don't have to deal with it when they are 18!
