Star Light, Star Bright…

I have a child who is obsessed with all things planetary and universal. He calls himself a space scientist and will spend hours each day writing out space facts and drawing pictures. Not only can he name all the planets in order, which I can’t even do, from closest to the sun to farthest and vice versa, he knows how to draw their planetary symbols.

Remember the moon-blasting mission? He came home every day from school and would ask me if they had any results yet. Oh, how exciting it was last week when I could finally tell him, “GUESS WHAT… There IS water on the moon!”

Last week, at his sister’s volleyball game, he sat on the bleachers and penned out a 5-page letter to NASA, complete with another page of illustrations. It is in the mail today. Can you imagine his excitement if he actually got a response??

Tonight, between the hours of 1am and 3am Central, the annual Leonid Meteor Shower will be at it’s peak. My little 6-year-old space scientist has asked me to wake him up during that time to observe the meteor showers. How can I say no to that?

I hope he does get a response! BB is so dang adorable:) I kind of want to see that, but I'm not so sure I want to be up during those hours…

Love your boy! My girls have interest in the stars and stuff, but they don't have the love/passion for it like BB does. Glad I hook you up with Barb!

That is awesome he is soo interested! Can't wait to hear if he sees some good ones!

Wow, that's impressive. I love it when kids are passionate about something.

I love the fact that he's so interested in something like that. All Dave is interested in is Wii.

oh my goodness this MELTS MY HEART!! i love it!! when my little boys are interested in something it goes FULL FORCE and I LOVE watching it and being a part of it! Mine loves space too and knows his planets in order; we can see the space shuttle go up from here and he LOVES it. I just LOVE that he wrote NASA 5 page letter! And I love you for getting up with him at 2 in the morning to watch the meteors, you're the best mommy EVER!

I think it is fabulous that he loves it so much, and even more so that you are helping and encouraging it. Space and Science are so cool, and such a wonderful thing to learn about.

I can't name the planets either, but Hunter knows them and can do the symbols too. We got him the planets for his ceiling and a planetarium thing for his room. He loves it.
