Stitch Fix vol. 5

What is Stitch Fix? Read this!

I’ve proclaimed my love for Stitch Fix for several months now, so in December I decided to take the leap and sign up for the automatic monthly fixes! I made a few requests this time around: No more cardigans, a pair of skinny jeans, and with our upcoming trip to Florida, some suitable pieces for a warmer locale -even though it will be a few months before I can wear any warm-weather clothing around North Dakota. BRRRR! This winter has been one of the coldest!

Pomelo Lydia Faceted Stones Long Necklace ($36)  – This was a pretty necklace, but I couldn’t see paying $36 for it. SEND BACK.

41 Hawthorn Freddy Sleeveless Chiffon Dress ($58)  – I love, loved this dress. It wasn’t a color I would normally choose for myself, but it was fantastic! I packed this dress for our trip to Sanibel Island, FL and wore it twice with a wide brown belt purchased at Brea and these sandals. KEEP.

I'm wearing the dress on the Florida beach! Well, under the baby, that is.

19 Cooper Clemency Diamond Print Tab-Sleeve Tunic ($68)  – This was cute and I was hoping it would work out. The loud pattern, fit and colors just didn’t look right on me, though. SEND BACK.

Caramela Winslow Geo Print Sleeveless Blouse ($28)  – This tank was a cute, flowy top and for the great price, it was definitely a keeper! KEEP.

Kut from the Kloth Denna Skinny Jean ($78)  – I wanted these jeans to work so badly! Now that I’ve lost a bunch of weight, I was hoping to find a pair of skinny jeans to wear with my boots. Unfortunately, these were just too big and not that flattering. SEND BACK.

More Florida Ramble!

I am slowly trudging through my millions of pictures from the last few weeks, bear with me!

So here are the details of our last-minute getaway… We drove to 7 hours to Minneapolis to catch our plane -anything from airports around here was so unreasonably-priced. Flew into Miami since it was one of the “cheapest” places with our vacation package. We rented a minivan and drove across Florida to Ft. Myers and from there we drove the causeway to Captiva Island. We stayed at the South Seas Resort.

The resort was beautiful. We had a 3 Bdrm, 3 Ba, bayside villa. All the kids had their own beds and had a full-size kitchen with a dishwasher. And a washer and dryer. I don’t think I could ever go on vacation and stay in a regular hotel again. It was so awesome being able to return home with clean clothes and being able to cook meals instead of always eating out. Awesome housekeeping service as well.

Line from B at the hotel: “Mom, hurry up and put your gift card in the door!”

The beaches were great. We spent hours and hours playing in the ocean and snorkeling. We saw dolphins, manatees, and came home with tons of seashells. The waves were a little rough our last day there and millions of little fish kept getting washed up which kind of FREAKED ME OUT. I am not joking either. Millions. Look at this picture closely. Those black dots are FISH. Ew.

We rented a pontoon one day and took it out around the islands. See other Florida post for details. I highly recommend that, just don’t anchor it where there is rough surf. ;o)

All the reviews I had read about the resort said to buy groceries instead of eating on the resort or buying food there, so we stopped in Ft. Myers and shopped there. There is also a great little general store on Sanibel Island called Bailey’s.

We ate at The Harbor Pointe on the resort for dinner one night -great food, very expensive, very stuffy. I wasn’t impressed with our waiter. He was a little stuck-up. How was I supposed to know they didn’t serve ranch for the kids to dip their chicken in?! ;o)

Instead, I recommend going here: The Island Cow. Much more family-oriented and laid-back, yet excellent food. Justin had the snapper and it was excellent. I had grouper which wasn’t bad either. His was just better.

There were cool little island shops all over the place. The most interesting one we found was on Sanibel and it had shells and fossils and all kinds of old artifacts. Very cool. I wish I could remember the name.

The resort has Kids Clubs and lots of activities for children- we just never really had time to look into it. We never even made it to the swimming pools we were so busy in the ocean!!

BRING BUG SPRAY!!!

As far as the airline, we flew American Airlines. The flight attendants were awesome and went over their typical service to make sure our kids were taken care of. Definitely pleased with that.

I was not too impressed with the Miami airport. It was very unorganized. And we hated driving in Miami traffic. Worse than most big cities we have been in. I think I would definitely try a different airport destination next time!

Overall, it was a great vacation and I would recommend it for anyone -families, couples, friends…

Back To Real Life

We arrived home on Friday evening from our FL vacation. We had a great time. Saturday morning we packed up and headed out of town for a wedding. Congratulations to the newlyweds, Tom and Amy and their gorgeous baby Aspen. I hope you have a wonderful life together! Amy was a gorgeous bride. My pictures at the reception didn’t turn out well due to the dim lighting and maybe a few too many jack diet’s. ;o) It was a fun time though!

Justin headed back to work today and now I am going to begin the tedious task of unpacking, cleaning the sand out of everything, laundry, etc…. And yard work. What a mess that is.

I will be posting again later and posting more pictures from the wedding and Florida as I edit them. Happy Monday!

Lobsters

We are all looking a little overcooked. I guess you can never have too much sunblock or apply it enough times! I don’t have any new pictures today, I will have to start editing some soon!

Holy moly, when it rains here -it REALLY rains. Their average monthly rainfall is close to 10 inches! Which means -LOTS of bugs. We figured that out our first night here.

Talking about mosquitos:

B: How do they bite you?

Me: They poke a hole in your skin and suck on blood.

B: Maybe they are turning our blood into honey! ;o)

Monday we went to the mainland and went miniature golfing and to Kung Fu Panda. It was a really cute movie. As those of you who know us personally probably know about Bridger’s panda obsession that he has had for the past couple of years. Well, watching him watching the movie was absolutely ADORABLE. He was loving it. I probably spent more time looking at him than the actual movie.

Yesterday we rented a pontoon and went cruising in the ocean. It was kind of scary in the beginning -after looking at the sea-map thing it looked a little overwhelming. We pulled up and anchored a little island we thought looked good. Unfortunately, it was a bad choice. The waves were strong and made the water too cloudy for snorkeling. And they also pushed our pontoon up to the sand. Shit! We were totally stuck and couldn’t budge it. In my total brilliantness, I decided to quit pushing and go on it and rock it back and forth while Jusitn (and Kane) pushed. We got
‘er. Quite the experience, let me tell you.

Today is our last full day here…. :o(

Reporting from the Gulf.

I am sitting in my in my 3 bdrm, 3 bath villa drinking a beer. ~Landshark Lager~ mmmm. With a lime. Brewed in Jacksonville. LOVE IT.

We made it safe and sound. It has been a long day, but we got the kids to bed and are going to get a fresh start tomorrow. We drove to MN last night, checked into our hotel about 12 a.m., got up at 4 a.m. and headed to the airport. Totally worth the $110 we had to spend on our hotel room. ;o)

We had to take my car since the hubby’s truck is in the shop and had the luggage thing strapped to the rack. I was so smart and packed everything we would need for this morning seperately so that we wouldn’t have to unpack it. So instead of leaving it on top of the car for 4 hours, Justin wants to unload it and stick it into the car. He gets it down and I go to grab one end since it is heavy. Well, he turns around at that moment and I get an elbow to my nose and orbit. Jackass. Dropped me right to the frickin’ ground. I had a nice hump on my nose when I went to bed, but lo and behold, nothing but a little tenderness today. I would have been so pissed if I had black eyes my whole vacation!

We made it through security with no hassles, onto the plane, and everything went smooth until Ashton started freaking out because he was going to puke. Ugh. Luckily, he never did, but lets just say we were lucky to be in the very LAST row, next to the restrooms. I hope this toilet fear/ holding it in thing is just a phase.

We got our rented minivan in Miami, drove to our resort island, got everything settled and made it to the ocean right as the sun was setting. And we saw DOLPHINS not far from us -so, so cool. Beautiful sunset, tons of seashells. Lots of bitey little bugs -definitely need to buy some bug-spray tomorrow. I took my camera with, but have no pics to show. Still looking for my battery. I know it is here somewhere! I am really going to hate myself if I forgot it at home! Hopefully, tomorrow I will have an update WITH PHOTOS! Later!

Leaving On A Jet Plane

Don’t know when I’ll be back again… Maybe we’ll decide to forever stay on the beach. ;o) I wish! Stay tuned for updates on our crazy, last-minute, flying-across-the-county-with-a-family-of-six adventure! Laters GATORS!
