it takes a village.

This boy.

This little, blue-eyed boy with a BIG heart.

He steals MY heart.

His wish this Christmas is not for an iPod, Pokemon, or Legos. The one item on his Christmas list?

To raise $10,000 for clean, safe water for 500 people.

It takes a village, friends.

Can you help?

Will you help? Will you share his story on your blog, on Facebook, and through email? Or place a Pig with a Purpose at the center of your family gatherings this week?

Let’s harness the power of OUR VILLAGE to help another village thrive. We can do this, I know it.

Clean Water for Christmas.

I seem to have missed last Friday’s instaFriday {friday, saturday, where did you go? sunday?}, so today you get insta*takes! I’ve got to show off all those lovely little instagram photos somehow, right?

Another week flew right by me, which means we are almost at the start of the school year.

That means: school clothes shopping… my daughter loves, but my wallet does not. Because every 7th grade girl must have this and this and NOBODY wears THOSE anymore. They are so last year.

Erin and Jaida came to visit and now that the girls are supersitters, we left them home with the young’uns and headed out for a wild night on the town filled with lavash and blackjack.

We burned off the calories once we got home by having an intense dance competition. I won, of course.

The next day, we took the girls to their much-anticipated week at summer camp. Of course, I made them pose for the obligatory photo outside of their cabin, because I pretend to be THAT MOM just to embarrass them.

While she was gone, the twins and I had some quality one-on-one time. It was spent playing games and reading in, you know, boxes. Only I couldn’t really squeeze my ass into a box.

Speaking of asses and things that don’t fit, I’ve been busy working on a super-secret project for my other site, The Sisterhood of the Shrinking Jeans. The great unveiling will take place next week! SUSPENSE!

That new carpet we put in last week? Wet. Soaking wet. Because of this storm and lots of water in window wells, which leads to water in the basement:

Throw in a quick trip to the rig and the bunkhouse and there you have it, a week gone by in the blink of an eye.

the much-needed breath of fresh air.

I left Bismarck feeling overwhelmed and a bit nervous.

And landed in Baltimore feeling airy and light.

I was in the company of these two girls before I even left the airport!

The weekend was filled with friendship, fun, oh, and some learning!

I ran 13.18 miles along the inner harbor Friday morning. YES! For real! I was planning on 12, surprised myself by even doing that, then said, SCREW IT! I’m doing a half-marathon!

I had an awesome time and wow, my friends are fabulous.

Thanks to CLICK for sponsoring me for this event! It was amazing and wonderful to work with a company who makes products I enjoy so much!

I could use more donations to my campaign {i’m running another 13.1 in 2 weeks!}, can you help?

Apologies for the iPhone photos… I didn’t lug around my real camera much this weekend! :)

you capture:: smile

this past week wasn’t really of the smiling kind,

but we gathered out at the bunkhouse after the funeral for a special tribute to a special lady,

and lo and behold, SMILES.

she would have wanted it that way.

I need to pedal faster.

I keep falling sooooo behind on everything! I have a feeling things will only get worse once the kids are out of school, a date which is racing towards us!

The twins, Averie, and I made a marathon road-trip to Denver this past week. We left Thursday evening and just made it home last night!

I used to go to college at UNC in Greeley, and my best college friend tied the knot on Saturday. I hadn’t seen her or my other friends from that area in 12 years! TWELVE YEARS! If that doesn’t age me, I don’t know what does. It was so awesome to see her and all the others, why, oh why, do I let the years slip by with no visits?

Since I am such a multi-tasker, I decided to look at a house I have been eyeballing while I was there, plus a few neighboring finds. The Realtor met me at an exit about 45 minutes south of Denver, and I followed behind him. Holy hell, I am so glad I did not meet him at the house, like I had originally planned. The roads were dirt, steep, and filled with hairpin turn after hairpin turn. I had to do some crazy parking tricks, and for those of you who know me personally, you know that I am a parking-phobe.

I am pretty sure no school bus could EVER handle those roads, which would mean ME driving up and down them at least twice a day. And sometimes IN THE WINTER. Oh, HELL NO.

Hopefully, we will check out some other areas this summer and find something more suitable for our family. You know, something that doesn’t require ice picks and safety ropes.

I received this awesome award from Jen from Jen in Real Life. I have been lucky to get to know her over the past few months over Twitter and blogging! She is a fabulous person and I will get to hang out with her in person in March if I make it to FitBloggin! Exciting!

As always, there are instructions:

1. Copy the image and display it on your blog.
2. List 10 things that make you happy.
3. Try to do at least one of them today.
4. Pass on the award to 10 bloggers who brighten your day.

Happiness is…
Giggling children. I love, LOVE hearing my children giggle. As long as it’s not the sneaky-I-just-did-something-naughty-type of giggle.
Sunshine. Oh how I love thee. I find it super hard to get through the North Dakota winters with the never-ending gray skies. I need sunshine on my shoulders.
As long as I am going the John Denver route, mountains also make me happy.

The bunkhouse makes me happy. Country adventures at their finest.

My friends and family. I love being in the presence of good company and my family and friends pretty much rock.

Adventures. Whatever and wherever they may be. I feel my happiest when I am learning new things and experiencing new places.

Photography. My passion. The feeling of satisfaction when I get “the” shot.

Thunderstorms. I love, love, LOVE thunderstorms. Mother Nature in all her glory.

Stickling. Back rub + Tickling = Stickling. My husband is the best. Ever.

Inspiration. I love to be inspired and love to inspire.

I am passing the happy love on to 10 other bloggers who consistently brighten my days (only 10? Know that there are so, SO many more of you!)…

Thank Goodness! Thursdays

It’s Thursday! Time to proclaim all we are thankful for!

This isn’t easy for me this week. I am having a really rough time right now, and woke up this morning to find it has gotten even worse. Trying really hard not to just bury my head in the sand.

Thank Goodness! for friends. You know who you are. You keep me going each day. Sometimes? You even get me to smile and laugh. Shhh, don’t tell anyone. So, FRIENDS, thank you, thank you, thank you. I.LOVE.YOU.

Go write your own post on what you Thank Goodness! for, come back and link up with Mr. Linky!

Don’t Hate Me… It’s Art!

I dread the day when I am the victim. And when it happens, I just hope no one has a camera handy.

And back to the night of branding:
