We have had some big, exciting weeks around here lately. I love summertime!

We have been playing with my chickens {I love them!}. They are amazing to watch. Really.

We bought 47 acres.

Oh, and we went to Florida. Rollercoasters and theme parks, followed by many days relaxing in the sand and chasing lizards.

you capture: top 10 of 2011

Is it bad that I still have hundreds (or thousands) of photos from 2011 to go through and edit? I may get to it by 2018 at the rate I’m going. I loved going through my files looking for my favorites. Reminds me that there was much beauty in 2011, no matter how hard of a year it was! I couldn’t just pick ten, so bear with me.

My favorite photos of 2011:

you capture {festive}

I simply cannot believe that it’s December 22nd already! Just this morning, we loaded up the truck {and trailer!} and sent Justin, Kane, the dog, and two cats to work. The kids still in school, the other cat, and I will follow tomorrow or the next day. How we are all going to fit in our tiny little home-at-work is beyond me.

This is the warmest Christmas in North Dakota that I ever remember. There are only a few remnants of snow from a brief flurry we received a few weeks ago. North Dakota. Not a white Christmas. Pure Crazy!

{festive}

Our youngest little man is swearing off Christmas presents for the 2nd year in a row! Last year, he raised $5,622 for charity: water, and a clean water well is currently being built in Ethiopia! How awesome is that? This year, his goal is TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS. Bridger currently stands at $1,317 raised for people desperately in need of water. Did you know that a child will die every 15 SECONDS due to a lack of safe water? If you want to help Bridger change that statistic, you can donate on his secure web page, just click on the photo below!

Flipping Out

I saw this mitten garland on the Land of Nod website and fell in love. I swear, I turn instantly happy every time I see it!

you capture: patriotism

Good morning! This week’s You Capture theme was Patriotism. I have to admit that this is one of the absolute busiest weeks of the year for me and most of the time I found myself without my camera, only my trusty iPhone. So please forgive me, as all of these photos were shot with my phone. So not like me.

Averie had an ortho appointment right before the weekend and had her braces switched to… you guessed it. Red and blue.

This flag was proudly waving at the quaint, rural cemetery where we buried my grandmother a few weeks ago. The flags in the lower corner are part of a tribute to the veterans buried there. Beautiful.

but this photo leaving yellowstone, taken at 10,950 feet up in the air {that’s 2 miles!} was the most amazing, in my eyes. lightning and thunder, it was breathtaking {and not just from the elevation}.

on monday, the kids and i packed up home-cooked food and drove two-and-a-half hours to deliver it to my husband who we haven’t seen since the beginning of the month.

then, we turned around and drove two-and-a-half hours home.

i passed this alongside the road, admired it, then flipped a u-turn on the highway to go back to it.

such lovely light.

this past week wasn’t really of the smiling kind,

but we gathered out at the bunkhouse after the funeral for a special tribute to a special lady,

and lo and behold, SMILES.

she would have wanted it that way.

Miss Averie, acting like a diva

Did you hear? My husband, the kids, and I are collecting dollars and coins until we reach our goal of $5,000 {or beyond} to fund a water project in Africa.

{can you, will you, help us?}

We are making up our very own 1/2 marathon (kids are doing a 5K) and will spend the next 3 months training for it until race day on June 12th. We are very excited. Read more about our family here and why we are doing this here.
